You will enjoy your dives even more when you are able to recognize and identity the marine fish and invertebrates that can be found throughout New England, including your favorite local dive site. Your training starts in the classroom by learning:

• The species of marine fish and invertebrates found in our local waters.
• How to identify distinct characteristics between different species.
• The habitat where different species can be found.
• How to conduct REEF Marine Life Surveys.
• Special tools and resources to help conduct REEF Surveys.

During your two open water dives you will be conducting REEF Surveys of a local dive site. You will start by noting basic information about the dive site and dive conditions. During the dives you will be observing and identifying the different marine fish and invertebrates seen throughout the dive, including their abundance. This information will then be used to log the marine life surveys into the REEF database, to be used for later scientific research.

Prerequisites

Must hold a  Junior Open Water Diver certification or higher with a minimum age of 12 years old.

Gear Needed

• Scuba Gear: Wetsuit, BCD, Regulator with Computer or Gauges, Tank & Weights. If you rent from us you will receive the 50% off student rate!
• Personal Gear: Mask, fins, snorkel, hood, boots, gloves. Please know we do not rent these items.
• Underwater Dive Slate

Optional but helpful items include:

• Marine Life of the North Atlantic App
• REEF Marine Life ID Cards
• REEF Survey Tools

Includes: 1 Classroom session, 1 day of ocean dives (2 dives total)

REFUND POLICY

All class payments are non refundable. From your registration date up until 15 days before the course start date you can reschedule to a new class with zero penalty. If you are within 8-14 days of the course start date you can reschedule to a new class with a rescheduling fee of 25% of the tuition. If you are within 0-7 days of the course start date you will owe a rescheduling fee of 50% of the tuition. If you don't show up to class, your tuition is forfeited.
