Dive Dominica: November 2016
November 5, 2016 - November 12, 2016
Join us in Dominica November 5th – 12th, 2016. We will be staying at a small resort called Castle Comfort. Not only is this destination EXCELLENT for diving, offering diverse marine life and underwater terrain but the island has so much more to offer such as numerous hikes to waterfalls and gorges, whale watching, zip lining and more!
Castle Comfort is a small dive resort located 1 mile south from the capital, Roseau. The resort sits at the ocean’s edge at the foot of some of Dominica’s most spectacular mountain ranges.
The rooms offer the following amenities:
- Free WiFi (entire property)
- Cable flat screen TVs
- Remote Air conditioning units
- Private bathrooms – hot & cold water (showers)
- Build in safe in closets
- Ceiling fans
The resort restaurant features a dining area and bar looking out over the water. They can accommodate all diets.
Roll out of your bed and into the dive boat! The dive boats leave at 8:45am for 2 dives. You will return to the dock by 1pm. The boat rides are short and conditions are typically very easy with great visibility. You will also have unlimited shore diving. There is a vast submerged volcanic crater in the marine reserve. It has some amazing dive sites; dramatic drop-offs and walls, huge pinnacles rising from the seabed, active underwater fumaroles, expansive coral reefs, all full of life.
There are an abundant amount of other activities to do around the island. Here are some highlights you might want to visit.
Champagne Falls: Champagne reef is one of Dominica’s “signature” dive sites. Shallow enough to be enjoyed by snorkelers and scuba divers alike, the water temperature over the vents found throughout the reef can reach 90 degrees, making the sea floor warm to the touch! The constant bubbling of gasses creates a truly unique experience – like being in a hot tub in the middle of the ocean!
Trafalgar Falls: These famous twin waterfalls are a 20-minute drive from Roseau. It’s a short 10 to 15 minute walk along a well-maintained path to the visitor reception area, where you can photograph both falls from a viewing platform.
Titou Gorge: The hike through Titou Gorge, is actually a short swim from the base of a waterfall through a series of natural “rooms and ponds” formed by high cliff walls canopied by interlaced trees. The undulating sides of this deep, narrow gorge were formed as molten lava cooled and split apart.
Emerald Pool: An easy 30-minute hike takes you through magnificent overhanging trees and lush vegetation to the shimmering pool, which appears green in the tree-filtered sunlight. If you go for a dip, you can swim right up to the waterfall!
