Hello Divers!

We hope you had an enjoyable April. We know a lot of you went away on vacation, we hope the trips went well and if you have any photos, bring them in to show us. We love to see your images and videos.

Shaun and the group had a great time in Roatan. We would like to congratulate Eve & Spencer for completing their dives while on the Roatan trip. The resort was wonderful, food was good and the diving was even better. They encountered dolphins and sharks along with many colorful fish. We highly recommend traveling to Anthony’s Key in Roatan.

We are excited to announce our Dive Society start date! We will start diving on Wednesday, May 25th. Check your emails once we get closer for the dive leader name and confirmation of times as we usually do.

Don’t forget our BIG SALE on May 14th & 15th. It’s the perfect time to get into some new gear or add to your existing kit.

We hope you’re as excited as we are to hit the water. Many of our classes are already booked up. We will be announcing our boat dive schedule soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Let’s GO DIVE!

March 2016
Hello Divers!
We made it through February in New England pretty easy this year! We had some nice warm days where divers could go out and really enjoy their dives. The water is remaining pretty warm with an average of 38 to 41 degrees so don’t miss a dive if you think it’s too cold.  As a reminder we head to Bonaire from March 5th-12th and we will be closing the store for that week. We are excited to feel that spring is on its way. We have been planning out our summer schedule with fun activities for you. We have a lot of new products coming into the store which you can read about below. We have also announced a new trip to Dominica in the fall. Designed for the active diver and the travel diver, the i450T has flexibility and intuition packed into an eye-catching design. Even small but thoughtful details were considered- once you pair your transmitter, you’ll never need to pair it again. The optional hoseless gas integration de-clutters your dive for a more streamlined feel. This model features the 4 operating modes of air, nitrox, gauge and freediver and also comes standard with a digital compass. It also features large font for easy reading and audible alarms for safer diving. This model will be released in the Spring of 2016. Learn more

instrumentation_transmitter

The Aqua Lung Transmitter, used in conjunction with a compatible wrist computer, allows you to monitor current pressure and gas time remaining without a stiff high pressure hose, while providing a more streamlined profile. The transmitter pairs for life and up to 3 transmitters can be used with each Aqua Lung gas integrated wrist computer. Transmitters come in 2 versions: Nitrox compatible to 40% and 100% O2.  Transmitters will be available in Spring 2016. Learn more

Analog Gauges

Our line of Analog Gauges is designed for easy readability and use, with the quality and reliability you expect of Aqua Lung products. A Pressure Gauge, Depth Gauge, and Compass are available separately or in 2- or 3-gauge console models. Learn more

DiveLog

diver-log

DiverLog is a best-in-class digital log book to record and share all of your dive information.
Never again wonder where you saw that pod of spinner dolphins, or wish you had still that dive buddy’s contact information, or wonder what weight you’d used on your last dive. It’s all captured in DiverLog by Pelagic Pressure Systems. And your Aqua Lung dive computer is all set to easily sync and upload your information. And just for the i750T, its Bluetooth technology allows all of this to happen instantaneously with your mobile device right to your App—even while you are still on the dive boat! It’s a great opportunity to analyze and share your dive right in the moment. We will let you know that the DiverLog does cost $24.99 to purchase. We are hoping in the future they will offer this software for free. The download is available for MAC/iPhone  right now. The download for PC/Andriod will be available later this month. Learn more

Algorithm

Aqua Lung’s Pelagic Pressure Systems has had long history of developing decompression algorithms for safe diving. The principal designer of these algorithms is Dr. John E. Lewis, who has been with Pelagic for over 34 years. He is one of very few people in the world that have the knowledge to develop the algorithms that are used in dive computers.

Dr. Lewis earned his Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology. He has been influential in the dive community, as the principal author of “The Recreational Diver’s Guide to Decompression Theory, Dive Tables, and Dive Computers” and as a member of the Underwater Hyperbaric Medical Society.

Dr. Lewis wrote the proprietary Pelagic Z+ (PZ+) algorithm employed in Aqua Lung’s computers. The PZ+ algorithm is based on the Bühlmann ZHL-16C algorithm and is a favored recreational algorithm for the safety conscious diver.

Feature Image
showcase_instrumentation_choose

Aqua Lung dive computers can be broken into two primary categories:

  1. Air integrated (i750T, i550, i450T)
  2. Non-air integrated (i300)

Once you decide whether you want/need air integration, you will then need to decide on which style you want:

  • Hosed connection (i550)
  • Watch style (small display) wrist computer (i450T)
  • Large display wrist computer (i750T, i300)

There are several factors to consider when choosing a dive computer:

What is my budget?

There’s no need to consider computers that are too far above your budget, so knowing what you can spend will help you to pick the best available computer you can afford.

How often do I plan using it?

If you only plan on diving once a year while on vacation, then you might not want to purchase the top of the line model. A basic computer will still give you all the dive information needed during your limited diving. If you dive multiple times a year, then a more feature rich computer will be of more use. Air integration, color screen and easy downloading to a PC or Mac are some key features to consider.

Do you plan to dive locally, travel or both?

Local diving allows you to ignore size and weight when choosing a computer, whereas a diver who travels a lot will want to maximize features and benefits in a smaller and lighter instrument.
Unless you travel with your personal regulator, a non-air integrated hoseless computer is best for the traveling diver. This allows you to download your dive data to a PC/Mac versus needing to write down on paper. It also allows you to dive in your preferred unit of measurement (metric or imperial). If you normally dive with an imperial gauge (feet) and take a trip to Australia, will you be comfortable diving with an analog gauge displayed in meters?

How good is your eyesight?

Be realistic, a small watch style computer might look great out of the water but it needs to be practical during your dive. If you can’t easily read the information during a dive, you should look at computers with a larger display. This will provide for a better dive experience and keep you safer by allowing you to read critical information on the display. Consider a color screen; they are often times easier to read for those of us with diminishing eyesight.

Where do you see yourself (dive experience/level) in the next 12-24 months?

If you plan on continuing your dive education or diving a lot, then you should consider buying for your future needs now rather than upgrading down the road.
Spending a little more now could save you hundreds a year from now when you realize you want/need more from your computer.

Do you own a regulator setup? Plan to purchase one in the near future?

If you do not own your own regulator, then purchasing a hosed computer doesn’t make sense. You can still purchase an air integrated computer now, just hold off on purchasing the transmitter until you acquire a regulator; you can always add the transmitter down the road.

All dive computers do the same basic functions:

Provide depth and dive time (air pressure on air integrated computers)

It’s from this point where you start to consider the additional features and benefits that best suit your needs.

  • Air time remaining
  • Dive time remaining
  • % of O2
  • # of gases
  • Audible/visual alarms
  • Down load capabilities
  • Size, color, material
  • Warranty
  • Compass

The list goes on and on…
