Cozumel: 2016 Trip

Cozumel 2016

We have booked another trip to Scuba Club in COZUMEL from January 30th – February 6th, 2016. Our last trip to Scuba Club was a huge success. The resort is made for divers by divers. This trip is all inclusive giving you  2 tank dives for 5 days, unlimited shore diving and all of your meals.

Why dive Cozumel?

dive map

Cozumel is known in the scuba diving industry as one of the best scuba diving locations in the world. Every dive is a scuba divers dream. Teaming with schools of fish and boasting amazing view, Cozumel offers the avid scuba diver a vast playground. Cozumel is the Mexican Caribbean’s largest island, just 12 miles off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Cozumel is 28 miles wide. Located near Cancun; Cozumel is an island destination for scuba divers and non-scuba divers alike. Although it is a diver’s mecca, even after decades as a popular vacation resort, it remains a serene, quiet and undiscovered piece of paradise. The climate is subtropical. Most of the scuba diving and snorkeling activity in Cozumel is focused on the reefs and shallow coral formations that extend from the southern tip of the island to just south of San Miguel on the west coast. There are two main coral reef systems surrounding Cozumel, Colombia and Palancar reefs. Easily accessible with plateaus beginning in less than 30 feet of water, Cozumel reefs boast abundant underwater sea life and brilliant colors, often referred to by many scuba divers as some of the best scuba diving of their lives. At Chankanaab Lagoon, one of the most visited sites on the island, divers and snorkelers can observe small coral and limestone formations at 6 to 30 feet . You will find warm waters with the average temperatures ranging between 77-85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Scuba Club Cozumel

scuba club

Scuba Club Cozumel is designed and built by divers for divers as to provide all services in one convenient place. Located on the waterfront one mile south of the downtown ferry dock, Scuba Club is an attractive multi-level building of Spanish-Colonial architecture that blends into the waterfront.  Built in 1976 as Cozumel’s first dedicated diver’s resort, Scuba Club Cozumel is still a very intimate place where Cozumel Aficionado’s find convenience and good value.  The resort is private, safe and secluded from the crowds you’ll find downtown, but is still close enough to walk to town. The freshwater swimming pool is located next to the restaurant. There are only 61 rooms, finished in tile and stucco. Each has individual character with a feel of Mexican heritage. All rooms have a private terrace and are air-conditioned. The “Fat Grouper Grill” which is located downstairs is where your buffet style breakfast will be served and upstairs is the main dining room where you can find a wide range of meals.

Diving & Snorkeling

There is a PADI 5-Star Dive Shop conveniently located on the premises. Across the street in a small annex, there is a well-stocked retail dive shop as well as a gift shop. Guests can also enjoy shallow diving and snorkeling right in front of the resort. The house reef is a jagged limestone wall that gives refuge to many juvenile reef fish, lobsters, crabs, octopi and even the occasional seahorse.  The depth is about 15-25ft and access is easy from the pier using the specially built stairs with handrails. Divers board the boats every morning from our large private pier. The boat rides to the dive sites range from 10-50 minutes.

Dive Roatan 2016

We are very excited to announce that we will be running a trip to Anthony’s Key Resort in Roatan from April 16th – 23rd, 2016! Join us for exotic marine life, beautiful bungalows that sit at the water’s edge and fantastic dining at this all inclusive resort. Below outlines what this fantastic trip has in store for you. By the time you finish reading this, you will already be thinking of booking your plane ticket from cold snowy weather to sun glistening water and palm trees swaying in the island breeze. Don’t miss the chance to make wonderful memories for you and your friends and family.

Anthonys Key Resort
The Resort that Nature Designed

Four decades ago, the creators of Anthony’s Key Resort envisioned a small, tropical hideaway that would allow adventurous travelers the opportunity to experience the beauty of Roatan and the Caribbean as nature intended. Today, the resort still retains an intimacy with its surroundings that are reminiscent of a peaceful island village. Charming, wooden bungalows dot the resort’s palm studded hillside and rim its shimmering lagoon. You can reach the tiny islet on a brief boat ride from the resort’s main grounds, where you’ll find more private bungalows and spectacular ocean vistas. While a favorite pastime among guests is lazing in bungalow hammocks, more active visitors can enjoy various watersports on the key’s small beach.

location-map2

Back at the resort’s main grounds, a restaurant and bar are perched high on a hillside surrounded by towering coconut palms. There, more sweeping views and fiery sunsets are served up alongside delicious tropical fare. Just steps below at the waters edge are the photo, gift, and dive shops, where there is dockage for a fleet of state-of-the-art dive boats. A short walk from there takes visitors to the Roatan Museum and Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences, where guests can participate in educational programs and encounters with marine mammals. More inquisitive guests can join trained naturalists across the lagoon on Bailey’s Key to interact with playful dolphins and observe some of the island’s indigenous plants and animals along the key’s nature trail. Anthony’s Key Resort’s successful blend of nature, comfort and hospitality, continues to draw return visitors year after year in search of tranquility and adventure.

Roatan

Roatán is located in the Western Caribbean, approximately 35 miles north of mainland Honduras. Roatán is the largest and most developed of the Bay Islands with an area of 49 square miles. The other main islands are Guanaja and Utila. These islands form a 75-mile (120 km) crescent along with three smaller islands of Helene, Morat, and Barbareta and 65 tiny keys; 23 of which are found off of Roatán. Temperatures on Roatán hover between 77 and 88 ° F. The rainy period occurs between October and January. The warm crystal clear waters surrounding Roatán range from 78 to 84 ° F. The water visibility sits around 70 to 80 feet.

Rooms

There are different types of rooms at Anthony’s Key, whether it be Bungalows on the hill or at the water’s edge. We have chosen the Key Superior Rooms for your trip. Key Superior bungalows feature warm hardwood floors that invite your bare feet to walk and Honduran hardwood furnishings elegantly arranged throughout. These bungalows are air-conditioned, weather-sealed and fitted with high visibility glass windows for spectacular ocean vistas. Most key superior bungalows are situated in groups of two, three or four and share a covered deck, making them ideal to gather with family and friends. Two individual bungalows have a private porch, each inviting you to unwind in a cozy hammock at the end of the day! Access to the key is by island taxi boat, traveling back and forth in the lagoon, between the key and main island upon request.

Diving
Perhaps no island in the Caribbean offers more distinctive or easily accessible dive sites than Roatan, with approximately 35 dive sites located from West Bay in the south to Man of War Cay. Anthony’s Key Resort is conveniently located in the middle and within a short boat ride of many of Roatan’s top dive sites. The island’s reefs and drop-offs are teeming with colorful marine life and are ideally suited for novices and experts alike. Surrounded by the longest barrier reef in the hemisphere, Roatan’s diving sites offer everything from hard-core wrecks and deep fissures to peaceful eel gardens and shallow terraces where countless macro photo opportunities abound. Coral grows thickly on walls that begin in crystalline waters as shallow as 20 feet below the surface and drop to the purple depths of the Caribbean. Squadrons of eagle ray, schools of brightly colored tropical fish, and the occasional meandering shark are just a few of the Roatan scuba sites that delight divers. Several large wrecks submerged near the resort, await exploration. With water temperatures averaging 80 degrees or warmer, gentle currents and visibility ranging from 50 to 100 feet, Roatan is a favorite among visitors who prefer their diving colorful, thrilling and unswerving.

Dive Little Cayman: December 2015

littlecayman

From Phillipe Cousteau to David Doubliet, just about every diver who has experienced its reefs has stated that Little Cayman is one of the world’s premier dive destinations – with pristine reefs, excellent visibility and incredible diving.  The 80° F water is second to none when it comes to clarity and it is said that more underwater photographs are taken in the Cayman Islands than in all other Caribbean destinations. The Caymans’ trademark turtles are a common sight and eagle rays, angelfish, reef sharks and grouper count among the 500 species of fish that have been documented here.

ROOMS rooms

In early 2009, the resort completed major room renovations to their popular dive resort. Guestroom upgrades include new furnishings inspired by tropical colors and textures, Caribbean themed artwork, newly decorated bathrooms, fixtures and flooring. The pool view rooms feature many amenities such as:
